PSHE and Sex and Relationships Education

At HSF we have a comprehensive curriculum in place for the teaching of Personal, Social, and Health Education. This crosses over with Online Safety and includes meeting the statutory guidance for SRE (Sex and Relationships Education).

Sex and Relationships Education

Learning about ourselves and others, about how we change as we grow up and the relationships we create is an important part of PSHE. The Federation SRE policy sets out our approach to how we teach this element across both schools. Whilst the more formal elements of Sex Education are delivered in Years 5 and 6, we start covering this important aspect right from when pupils start in Reception, particularly in regards to respecting the privacy and personal space of all others and tolerance and respect for all relationships and family structures.

Whilst parents have the right to withdraw pupils from the more formal elements of Sex Education in Years 5 and 6 (parents are alerted to when this programme will be delivered and have an opportunity to view the concepts covered and the materials used), they do not have the right to withdraw children from the Relationships aspect.
