Governance Introduction

The governing body of the Hempstead Schools Federation is a very committed and hard working group of volunteers.

Their primary concern is the education, well-being and happiness of the children and staff. We come from all walks of life and backgrounds and represent the parents, staff and local community.

The role of the governing body is to;

  • Ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction of the schools
  • Oversee the financial performance of the schools and make sure money is well spent
  • Contribute to the schools' self-evaluation and understand their strengths and weaknesses
  • Support and strengthen school leadership, holding the Heads and Senior Leadership Teams to account for improving the educational performance of the schools and their pupils and the performance management of staff.

The day-to-day running and management of the schools is the role of the educational professionals, namely the Head Teachers and the Senior Leadership Teams. Through monitoring the different aspects of the schools' work we aim to help the Senior Leadership Teams to identify the schools' strengths and weaknesses and then support the schools as they seek to develop strategies for improvement.

The governing body of a school is based on a stakeholder model; that is to say it is made up of representatives of those groups who have an interest in how effective the delivery of education and care is in school. This includes parents, staff and the local community. From time to time we also invite associate members who bring a specific interest or skill.

See Governance Structure & Committees page for details of FGB committees.

Contacting the Governors

Governors cannot deal with issues concerning individual children or matters that are a matter of routine or part of the day to day running of the schools. These should be raised through the normal channels e.g. the class teacher or Headteacher as set out in the Complaints Policy.

For any other issue, the Co-Chairs of Governors, Richard Warnham or Wendy Harris, can be contacted by letter through either of the school offices or directly via email.

Minutes of past meetings can be inspected on request at the school offices. The minutes of the current Governing Body meetings held can be found on this site.
